Misplaced Love

Just came across this site - http://www.podloveonline.com

The firm - Pod Love
What they do - iPod audio uploading service.

Say that you've got a huge cd collection (anything > 30 cds). And you want to transfer all the audio from that into your iPod. For us (the regular guys), that would mean a few hours during a weekend. Heck, we would even do it during weekdays after workhours. These chaps are targeting the oh-i'm-so-busy-I-dont-have-the-time-to-upload-all-that-audio people ( I seriously wonder how many people actually go and pay for such kind of service ). All you got to do is give them a call and they'll come and collect your iPod along with all your cd collection, rip, upload and give it back to you within 3 days. What sorta business idea is this?

Hmm, I had thought about something similar (although it is a different league altogether) a few months back - a dial-in Laundry service targeting people new to Bangalore!

Adel, trust me.. it is a pain to rip all your cd's to mp3's .. I tried it and wish i had my brother to do it for me.

ramantheb : According to me, the thing about owning a gadget like the iPod is for you to use it the way you like it. Atleast for me, I love organizing, arranging, creating playlists, viewing slideshows, adding music, etc more than just listening to tracks. But I seriously wonder, would anyone actually "pay" for such a service. And imagine the amount of music, the service guy will have if he decides to keep a copy for himself!!

actually, most people who use this service have more than 100+ cds. To rip all those and categorize and tag and label them is a few weeks if done non-stop with ONE computer.

Think sense.

I kinda agree with one of the previous comments, forget 30 cds, what about 100 - 200 cds? That wud take some ripping :) Anyway, I for one wud definitely not go for a paid service for this. I have many other things i'd rather pay for :-)
By the way, adel how much would a good(lets say 40GB Photo) Ipod cost as of now?

You don't need to rip all the songs... There are only a finite number of (hit) songs people will have in this world, a company can pre-rip a whole collection and keep it. All people need to do is send them the CDs, the company will verify that you own the song by matching the CDDB ID of the song with the one they have, and store it in your iPod, all categorized, etc.; since they have it all arranged before.

Alternatively, if you buy all your CDs from PlanetM, they could just confirm that you own the song and the service would fill it up.
